The importance of energy storage batteries cannot be overemphasized as they account for more than 60% of the total cost of energy storage systems. Here, we will look at the types of energy storage batteries.
Lead acid battery.
Lead acid batteries are a type of battery in which the electrodes are mainly lead and its oxides, and the electrolyte solution is a sulfuric acid solution. In the discharge state of a lead acid battery, the main component of the positive electrode is lead dioxide, and the main component of the negative electrode is lead; In the charge state, the main components of both the positive and negative electrodes are lead sulfate. The nominal voltage of the lead acid battery is 2.0v, which can discharge 1.5v and charge 2.4v; In application areas, six single-cell lead-acid batteries are often connected in series to form a nominal 12v lead-acid batteries, such as 24v, 36v, and 48v.
It has been used as an energy storage battery for many years. This is mainly because lead-acid batteries were invented early and the technology is relatively mature. Of course, inexpensive manufacturing costs are also one of the main factors that are most popular.
Two-lithium polymer battery.
Lithium polymer batteries are the chemical properties of batteries. Compared to the previous battery with the characteristics of higher energy, smaller size, and lighter weight. Lithium polymer batteries have ultra-thin properties and can be made in a variety of shapes and capacities to meet the needs of some products.
In terms of the economic benefits of energy storage batteries, the use of soft-pack lithium polymer batteries is the most expensive. The safety performance is also the most unstable. That’s why many new energy vehicles today don’t use lithium-ion polymer batteries.
Lithium-phosphate cell.
Lithium phosphate iron batteries are lithium-ion batteries that use iron lithium phosphate (LiFePO4) as the anode material and carbon as the anode material. Its monomer voltage class is 3.2v, and the charge disconnect voltage is 3.6v to 3.65v.
During the energy storage battery charging process, some of the lithium ions in the lithium iron phosphate are carried away and sent to the negative electrode through an electrolyte, which is incorporated into the negative carbon material. At the same time, electrons are released from the positive electrode and reach the negative electrode from the external circuit to maintain the balance of the chemical reaction. During the discharge process, lithium ions separate from the cathode and pass through the electrolyte to the cathode. While electrons are released from the cathode and pass through an external circuit to the cathode to supply energy to the outside world.
Lithium iron phosphate batteries are the most resistant to high temperatures of all energy storage batteries. It sets a certain foundation for security and stability. Then it’s a little worse than a lithium polymer battery in terms of providing a high current discharge but much better than a lead acid battery. Today, many warehouse and logistics applications for intelligent commercial vehicles and robots use energy storage batteries that are essentially lithium-iron phosphate batteries.
